If you are new to taking GLP1 weight loss or diabetes medications, please read this long long post. You may already know all of this, but if not it may help you.
It seems that too many people taking prescription drugs for weight loss do not seem to know how the dosing for their medication works and end up with pretty unrealistic expectations. This unfortunately sets them up for disappointment instead of hope and celebration.
One way to learn what to expect is by taking take time to scroll through both our website stories plus the Join Mochi website as there is a lot of excellent information. Also, follow Mochi Health on Instagram so the new reels come up on your feed!
Ozempic & Wegovy are different names for the same GLP1 drug called Semaglutide. Mounjaro & Zepbound are different names for the same drug called Tirsepatide a GLP1/GIP medication that gives you two ways to lose. All are offered by Mochi Health in all forms. I am partial to Mochi Health as they've been fantastic for my personal path. I've been in bariatrics for 23 years and Mochi has a very well put together program that covers all bases from Customer Service to Support to having the Best Prices. They eliminate the need to ask your sometimes judgmental Primary Care Doc for Ozempic and instead getting a lecture about diet and exercise. Mochi has obesity specialists who get it and help you via a brief yet informative and supportive Telemedicine call.
For the first 8 weeks of taking a GLP1 medication you are BABY doses for your body to slowly get used to the drug, so IF you should have a negative reaction, it is both small and manageable. A big initial dose could wallop you with something that could be quite bad. Small is good even though we are all anxious to see results.
While many DO feel something quickly upon first injection of GLP1 drug, many do not. This doesn't mean that there is something wrong with the med or wrong with you or that it is not going to work for you. Not feeling anything isn't bad, as it means you have no negative reaction either. Put in your four weeks time building up some residual med in your system and your 5th dose that takes you up a level, will likely be enough to have you feel something palpable. It's hard, but please be patient.
Watch for it in those first four weeks on first starting dose... not feeling like finishing your meal, not finding yourself in front of the fridge looking for something to eat, not thinking about which drive through you could run through on the way home from work as these are ALL major victories without weight loss. These are signs that it is working!
The small starter doses are not actually meant for weight loss even though a few people have an initial KAPOW drop in weight, but that is a small percentage and should not be expected. If you lose a few pounds while on the first two dose levels, it's a lovely gift. Asking others HOW MUCH WEIGHT DID YOU LOSE IN YOUR FIRST WEEK is setting yourself up for being sad. The first week is not a weight loss week, but if you should lose a pound or two, be HAPPY and don't knock yourself down by saying it's water weight. Claim it, it is yours and can make you happy if you pick it up.
Try to be positive about any weight loss gift. Losing 5 pounds in 5 weeks is a whole size down for many of us. Jeans we could not button slide on more easily and we don't spill over the sides as much. Take the gift with gratitude. One pound per week is FIFTY TWO POUNDS in one year. There is not a single one of us who would not gladly take that as a guarantee. So no whining allowed for averaging one pound per week. It's a good thing!!!
Some of the side effects we read about in this group are self inflicted - if you are not doing well, THINK about the foods you are eating and when you are eating them. In my 3rd week on 2.5 Mounjaro, I woke up at 3am, burping salad. IT WAS AWFUL. Upon reflection, my husband and I went to happy hour and I had a martini with a small salmon Caesar salad. I realized it was the cocktail waking me up plus THE ROMAINE LETTUCE WAS NOT DIGESTING AT ALL. Ugh. I changed my food choices, passed on the cocktail and the issue went away completely. Instead of looking to treat the burping or the heartburn, look for the source. Much smarter and more effective in long run.
In fact, most issues can be solved by thinking it through. If you have gastric issues, look to your food choices - you have likely found the answer if you are eating fast food, processed foods, convenience foods, frozen dinners, take out, fried foods. Even good foods like raw vegetables like carrot or celery sticks can be too hard to digest when taking these meds. Remember that they slow digestion and gastric emptying so food is hanging around in your intestines rotting for a day or so.
When taking GLP1 meds, think simple. Have three small meals a day that each contain some protein. Egg and a sausage link with toast for breakfast, half turkey sandwich and grapes for lunch. Instead of Door Dashing Taco Bell for supper, pan cook ground beef with taco seasoning, top with salsa a little cheese and cook until melty. Or broil a pork chop and plate with a small baked potato and tomato slices. Keep it really easy. Tonight I made seared tuna, with rice, avocado, and edamame with a splash of Miso dressing... like a poke bowl. While the meds may in theory work forever, it's a good idea to use the early time to clean up your diet and move towards eating fresh food you cook yourself. Ditch the fast and processed junk food. It did not do you any favors.
Find and take a good broad based multivitamin. With eating so little you can eventually cause a deficiency for yourself that could affect your hair. Taking a hair vitamin assumes you know what you are deficient in. Better to first take a broad range multi such as our MultiGlow Vitamins & Minerals for Weight Loss Support that have been formulated to help fill gaps in our GLP1 diet and contain 100% of the daily value of all 22 vitamins and minerals to support our specialized needs.
Also, so many of us are scared to death about losing hair. The reality is that it can be minimized and even reversed. I use HairGlow, in just six months my hair has been transformed from thinning on top to visibly thicker with super shine and body. I am blown away by how great my hair looks. I have had thinning hair for 30 years due to my severe thyroid issues and HairGlow is the first product that has actually thickened my growth pattern. I highly recommend you HairGlow for at least three months and I promise you will be thrilled by the difference in your hair.

Gratitude is an Attitude. We are truly blessed that these GLP1 meds are now available. We are favored to have either insurance cover them or to be able to afford to pay for them at the level possible.
It saddens me to read the posts of people who are disappointed with what are actually GOOD outcomes of their first shot or their second week when in reality they never had a chance at happiness with the nonviable goals they set.
I hope this helps some of you! We are ALL in this together!
What the heck does this photo have to do with anything? Macy's has really nice Adore Me brand underwire swimsuits on clearance! A great way to reward or incentivize yourself for about twenty bucks.
