My Mounjaro Experience - Moving up to the big 5.0 dose in week 5

Today is my first dose of Mounjaro at 5.0, thus increasing the potency of my injection. Plus I went back to the thigh as my injection site. Ice pack, alcohol wipe, press the purple button. Boom. No pain, no blood, no bruising. I am good. Still nothing bad has happened. Nothing at all.

Another Cosmo please
Three days after my 5.0 injection, cocktails suddenly have a negative effect on me so I am adjusting our lifestyle a bit. My husband and I are ‘happy hour and dinner at the bar’ sort of people and this is no longer working for me as within an hour of two Cosmopolitans and supper, I feel as if I’ve been hit and dragged a short distance by a bus. I must rethink my lifestyle choices.

My usual is one cocktail then I order a second and supper of Greek or House Salad topped with a small portion of Grilled Salmon, Steak or Shrimp. We eat out two times a week after golf. Twice in the last two weeks, Ive crawled straight into bed when I hit the door at 7pm, so it’s time to cut back to one drink. If that does not fix things, I will drink something less potent. I like my life, but not at the expense of how I feel. Id rather be thin than drink two Cosmopolitans when we socialize.

Steak and salad
When I make supper at home, I bake, broil, or pan sauté fish seafood or meat and while the protein is cooking, I shred a couple cups romaine hearts and throw them in a big wooden salad bowl with 4 cherry tomatoes cut in half, a bit of shaved red onion, 1/4 cucumber sliced, and a few olives to toss with a few rounds of the bowl with a thin stream of olive oil, the juice of half a lemon, salt and pepper. Perfection!

I am not hungry. Almost no interest in food at all. I know I have to eat something or I will get a headache and a little nauseated. Ive been eating cottage cheese with an Everything Bagel sprinkle, Greek Yogurt with some berries, or a couple of Mozzarella sticks for breakfast. Lunch is a protein drink otherwise I have no room for supper. I make amazing lip smacking protein smoothies with the samples of my new GLOW protein!

I do not want to eat!
Food aversion is definitely stronger with the 5.0 dose. The bad good part is that by the end of the third bite of a meal, I am almost repulsed by the premise of eating any more of the food I’ve portioned. Repulsed is too strong a word, but it is close. Disinterested is not strong enough. Supper is the time I feel the strongest food aversion, and if I take a bite of something while cooking, I don’t even want the first bite. I literally need to push the plate away as I do not want to even have the plate in front of me.

I have not had strong hunger since my weight loss surgery over twenty years ago, so hunger suppression was not what I was seeking with these GLP medications. I am shocked by the strength of the additional lack of hunger I feel even at the Mounjaro 5.0 dose. I am hopeful that these drugs work as well to fix what is wrong with the way I process the food that I eat.

And the Grand Total is…
Day three into the 5.0 injection I have lost two more pounds and by the weeks end I am at ten pounds total loss in five weeks. Making the thigh for the win perhaps.

Im pretty good at math and while ten pounds stand alone is not much, I can see great potential for fifty pounds in five months and THAT is thrilling.

Finally, I have the potential for my weight to match my life, diet and pattern of exercise. Yay. Happy.
